VÍCTOR NUBLA (1956)
Composer, musician and writer, started his musical career in 1976, as co-founder (together with JUAN CREK) of the band-laboratory MACROMASSA, with which he is still working today.
He has been part of many other collective projects, such as NAÏF/ATLAS, with ENRIC CERVERA and ALBERT GIMÉNEZ, and is co-founder of the BEL CANTO ORQUESTRA, together with PASCAL COMELADE and PIERRE BASTIEN. He has been member of the EUROPEAN EXPERIMENTAL COMPOSERS ORCHESTRA and director of the ENSEMBLE MOEX in Sardinia. He is currently one of the members of the improvisation trio AIXÓNOÉSPÀNIC, together with ALBERT GUITART and QUICU SAMSÓ, as well as member of the duo GARFIO DE DOMA, with SEBASTIÀ JOVANI.
He has also collaborated, among others, with LT. CARAMEL, TIBETAN RED, TIM HODGKINSON, KASPER T. TOEPLITZ, FRANCISCO LÓPEZ, ROBIN STOREY, ZUSH-EVRU, JOHN CAGE, MARK CUNNINGHAM, HIROSHI KOBAYASHI, CARLOS ZINGARO, KRYSZTOF KNITTEL and MAREK CHOLONIEWSKI.
He developed the MCO system (“Objective Composition System”), a method to compose music combining randomness and short wave radio frequencies, which has been the subject of workshops in different countries. He is one of the pioneers in the use of the sampler in Spain, as well as the electronic treatment of wind instruments, particularly in the clarinet instrumental family. His discography, published in different countries, is well over one hundred titles.
He has also composed a sizeable number of soundtracks for film, video, dance and theater. He is the author of a number of books in the diverse fields of essay, poetry or narrative.
Since 1996 he directs the project “Gràcia Territori Sonor” in Barcelona, a platform carrying out artists residencies, workshops, publications and multi-disciplinar meetings, whose most notorious activity is the LEM International Festival.
