Under the pseudonym “Chop Shop”, Scott Konzelmann (EEUU) has been working since 1987 with recordings, installations and concerts, always using what this sound artist calls “loud speaker constructions”, which he develops and constructs himself.
These constructions are assembled sculpturally with “raw” materials – often unique industrial left-overs which incorporate loud speakers in the final structure. Each construction is conceived to perform a specific aesthetic-sound function and has a specific sound program which reflects its physical characteristics and acoustic response. For this event Chop Shop will present its work in a workshop/seminar, perform a concert and set up a sound installation with a new loudspeaker construction entitled Trio. The Trio sound installation is developed for a group of three small-sized identical metallic loudspeakers on ceramic bases. With a clearly somber and minimalist character, the loudspeakers are arranged in space to make it possible to hear any movement between them. Chop Shop has presented its work in concerts and in installations in North America, Europe and Japan (University of Salford, United Kingdom; Issue Project Room, New York; Independents, Japan, etc.). It has undertaken editorial work in many record companies in any format imaginable, including special editions on a reel-to-reel tape recorder. It is a founding member of the “Generator Sound Art” collective / campaign, active in New York since the middle of the nineties.
